Positively Positive Review – Ghostfacers: Webisodes 3 and 4

by on Apr.27, 2010, under Comedy, Horror, Television, Webisodes

Ghostfacers webisodes CW

The Ghostfacers are back again and this time, they actually see a ghost! Woot! I’m really getting a kick out of how well they are mixing the humor with the documentary stuff as well as the creepiness. A few moments of the current eps were downright scary, which I didn’t expect and was pleasantly pleased to see.

A short review but then again these webisodes are less than four minutes each so….

Funniest part of episode 3….

“My face has gotta be right in your box.” – Ed explaining to Ambyr how to know if her camera was working correctly. LOL!

Funniest part of episode 4….

“Bloody Mary, that story’s crap.” – Cracked me up so hard since the Supernatural episode by the same name is one of my favorites.

Overall two more great episodes that ended with a nice little cliffhanger. Can’t wait to see how they’re going to get the ghost and exactly what they’re gonna do with the mirrors.

Positively Positive Review – Supernatural: Point of No Return

by on Apr.17, 2010, under Drama, Horror, Television

Supernatural Point of No Return

Okay so this review is a day late because frankly I didn’t know where to begin and also, I needed some extra time to think about the episode. I was a bit disappointed in it but it had nothing to do with the episode itself. Have no fear, this is still a positive review.

I was disappointed for purely personal and selfish reasons. Like I’ve been saying all along, I want Jensen to play Michael!Dean just because he’s a freaking awesome actor and I think he could do some amazing stuff playing a vengeful angel inside a character he’s been playing for the past five seasons.

So when the end of the episode came and that didn’t happen….yeah, I was sad. But I got over it as I watched the episode again (this time without sitting there waiting, wishing and hoping for Michael to come) and I saw how great it was. Tons of drama, action and even a little bit of comedy, it was every bit of what makes this show awesome.

From Pissed!Cas (who, I have to admit, I now like better than Drunk!Cas) kicking Dean’s ass all the way up and down a dark alley, to Sam putting all his faith in Dean, to Adam making a return and his attitude (as Bobby said) fitting right in with his brothers – all of it made an episode that was the perfect showcase for the show’s 100th.

Highlights….

Zachariah discussing his “job” with another loser in a random bar.

Dean preparing himself to become Michael’s vessel; writing a letter (to Sam I assume), packing up his treasured possessions (gun, jacket, keys to the Impala) and drinking a lot.

Sam knowing exactly where Dean was going on his “farewell tour”, knowing exactly where to find him……and bringing reinforcements in the form of one very pissed off angel.

Dean telling Bobby “you’re not my father”. Man, you know he must be messed up when he’s willing to hurt Bobby like that. Then Bobby telling him that the only reason HE hasn’t given up is because he promised Dean. Only a few minutes in and the drama is already cranked up to about 9.5.

Cas showing some major skillz as he took down a couple angels at the gravesite.

Dean asking Adam if he got to third base in his version of heaven. One track mind much, Dean? Even in the face of certain death, that man still has sex on the brain. LOL. Gotta love him.

Dean telling Cas to blow him. OH MY GAWD!!! ROTFLMAO!

Finding out that they’re working on (according to Dean) “the power of love” to defeat Lucifer. Wow, okay so now I’m totally waiting for a Huey Lewis to show up and start singing (what can I say? I love that song).

“Cas, not for nothin’ but the last person who looked at me like…..I got laid.” – Tears people, I was laughing so hard I was in tears over that. Dean and Cas in this ep were SO fantastic!

Dean struggling when Sam asked him why they can’t stick together. Because it turns out that the truth is that he doesn’t believe that Sam can fight off Lucifer. The reason he’s decided to let Michael have control is that he knows Sam will say yes to Lucifer. Dean knows that when it happens, he has to be the one to fight him. Wow….just, wow. More tears except these were definitely not laugh ones.

Dean managing to escape by getting one up on Cas and blowing him away. Can I say wow again? Cuz that’s about all I can think of. If he thought Cas was mad at him before….oh boy.

Zach manipulating Adam into telling him where he was. Not a surprise but still, very cold-blooded to tell the kid that Dean and Sam don’t care about him. Especially considering the angels are counting on the exact opposite being true so that they can trap Dean.

“I’m Dean Winchester, do you know who I am?”
“Dear God!”
“I’ll take that as a yes.” – once again, laughing my arse off here. Then again I can’t blame the guy. I mean if Dean came up to me on the street and introduced himself like that I doubt my reaction would be much different.

Pissed!Cas giving Dean a smackdown for wanting to give in and say yes to Michael. I know it’s completely inappropriate but yeah, I kinda found that hot. Although my heart totally went out to him when he screamed “I rebelled for THIS!?” – poor Cas. He has given up a lot and it is pretty hard to watch these two at odds with each other.

Laughing at the fact that Adam’s choice for a last meal was pretty much the same as Dean’s. Does that mean that if Sam were put in that room, there’d be nothing but lattes and big bowls of salad? Just sayin’.

“Word to the wise, don’t piss of the nerd angels.” – LOL! I hear ya Dean.

Sam putting his faith in Dean, even when Dean can’t do the same for him.

Finding out that the “beautiful room” is in an abandoned muffler factory in Van Nuys. Who knew it was so close? Road trip!

Cas telling Dean that he doesn’t have the same faith in him that Sam does and admitting that he’d rather basically commit suicide (by taking on five angels) than watch him get taken over by Michael. Once again, wow.

Cas’ completely ingenious, totally insane way to take out all the angels by putting a sigil on his own chest. Considering how powerful those things are I can’t even begin to imagine what that would have done to him. Is he trapped forever now? EEEK!!

How easy it was for Zach to get Dean precisely where he wanted him, with his brothers lying on the floor in their own blood and seemingly no other choice left. Even though he had already decided it, when the time came you could see how much it hurt him to finally say the words.

The looks exchanged between Sam and Dean as Dean decided he couldn’t let his brother down and taking out Zachariah. Yes I know I’ve said I wanted Dean to say yes but I still cheered when he shoved the knife through Zachariah’s throat.

Wondering what it means now that Michael apparently took Adam.

Dean vowing to get not only Adam back, but Cas too.

Finding out that the reason Dean changed his mind is because he didn’t want to let Sam down and him realizing that if his little brother could do that for him, the least he could do was return the favor.

The boys vowing to “do it our way” and the way the ep ended with them driving off into the night, rockin’ music playing in the background.

*APPLAUSE!*

Overall I was very pleased with the 100th episode of Supernatural. It may not have ended the way I wanted but I’m always talking about how much I like surprises so I’m gonna appreciate that for what it was, a big surprise (to me anyway). Can’t wait to see what happens in the last few eps of the season and how this arc is finally gong to play itself out.

Positively Positive Review – Supernatural: 99 Problems

Supernatural season 5 title card blood

Well it looks like it’s finally going to happen, folks. What I’ve been waiting for ever since it was revealed that Michael was the only one who can take on Lucifer and Dean was Michael’s vessel.

It looks like Dean is finally going to say yes.

It’s been a long haul for the boys, the events in last night’s episode apparently being the straw that finally broke Dean’s back. He and Sam have done everything they could (and Cas too) to try and stop the Apocalypse any other way, but all that has happened is more lives being lost. And considering the whole point Dean had in saying “no” in the first place was to do exactly opposite to that, it looks like he’s had enough. If people are going to die one way or another, why not go ahead and get it over with?

Now I know what some people are thinking – “oh no! But Dean can’t fight Luficer! Then he’d have to kill Sam!”. Not so my friends. Lucifer is in another vessel right now. I think Dean/Michael can fight him right where he is, without harming Sam.

This is just my opinion of how it looks like things are panning out for the eldest Winchester, but we’ll of course just have to wait and see what actually happens.

Highlights….

The show diving straight into the action without letting us know what Sam and Dean were up against. Made the whole sequence very exciting.

The boys meeting a group of people who try to tell THEM that the Apocalypse is coming. Ha!

This line: “A town full of hunters? I don’t know whether to run screaming or buy a condo.” – LOL!

Dean telling the girl that she was the cutest Prophet they’ve ever seen……..aw but how about Chuck? He’s pretty cute too, right Dean?

Cas’ outgoing voicemail message – “I don’t understand, why do you want me to say my name?” – OMG! Absolutely freaking hilarious.

Sam and Dean finally getting to experience going into a fight with tons of backup. Pretty cool to see them fight along side a whole group of people with the same skills.

Dean telling the kid that he could have a ride in the Impala since he’d already saved his life and that “one more time and you can drive.” – Aww!

Sam pointing out to Dean that the town had just outlawed 90% of his lifestyle.

Watching the fight slowly going out of Dean as he begins to wonder if maybe he’s made the wrong choice…and watching Sam realize that’s precisely what’s happening to his brother.

Drunk!Cas – “I found a liquor store…and I drank it.” – LOL!!!

Watching how the words from one girl are able to change people from good, God-fearing citizens to murderers. Yikes.

Dean’s reaction to Drunk!Cas announcing that the girl is “The Whore!”. Classic.

Drunk!Cas: “It’s funnier in Enochian.” – so deadpan, so perfect, so very Cas.

Cas delivering his “I’m an angel of the Lord” line, but this time sounding so bereft that I just wanted to give him a hug. Poor Cas.

Dean and Cas bonding over “deadbeat dads” – Aw. (though a part of me did cringe at Dean calling John that – *sad face*)

That whole final action sequence – The Whore taking down Cas, Sam and Dean trying to stop her and the townspeople from lighting the room on fire with the “sinners” in it. Wow, very exciting.

DEAN being able to take out The Whore?? Right then and there I knew that something had definitely changed in him. He had already made up his mind about what he was going to do, even if he didn’t realize it yet.

Poor Cas lying on the bed in the hotel room. I couldn’t tell if he was just depressed or still recovering from his injuries (or both), but it was a little unnerving to see him like that. Our once all-powerful angel has been knocked around a lot this season. Then again, I kinda like it though. I like seeing him a bit more vulnerable, it makes him more….well, human.

Dean driving all the way to see Lisa as the last thing he does before (I assume) he gives in to the angels and Michael. Admitting to her, without actually saying the words, that she is his true love and her life is the life he always wanted. And that he’s making “arrangements” for her and Ben. In case you were all wondering, that noise you just heard was pieces of my heart falling on the floor…. *whimpers a little*

Overall another powerful episode full of more horrible things that are about to send Dean off to do the one thing I’m sure he thought he’d never do. I am now more excited than ever to see next week’s ep, especially since it will be the show’s 100th. Who ever thought we’d get here, eh?

Positively Positive Review – Supernatural: Dark Side of the Moon

Supernatural Dark Side of the Moon

After working out of town and living in hotels for the past 5 weeks, it is somehow oddly appropriate that my first review now that I’m back, is of Supernatural. Not just because I attended a Supernatural convention in LA this past weekend, but also because that’s rather a bit how my life has felt – supernatural.

This episode was full of heartbreak for all of the characters and I really feel like all of them are being tested to their very limits. It was mentioned at the con this weekend (though for the life of me I can’t remember by which guest) that they must hit rock-bottom before they can fight their way back and boy howdy, is that happening. First there was Dean looking to Heaven and begging for help, then there was Bobby lamenting the fact that he’s had to kill the love of his life more than once.

Last night we saw Dean trying to deal with the fact that some of Sam’s happiest memories are some of his worst. We also saw Sam realizing just how long his brother has been holding his family together and once again feeling guilt for his actions.

The final straw for me though was Castiel. Once he found out that God wanted no part of their battle, he looked like a man who’d lost all purpose. I’d never seen our stoic angel look so defeated and I think that was the hardest part to watch of them all. We’re used to seeing Sam and Dean, even Bobby, struggling. But so far Cas has been immune to most of it, doing without the annoying emotions that his human companions suffer with. Now he is there with them and I wonder what this will do to him, and to all of them.

I still think that we are heading for a battle between Lucifer/Sam and Michael/Dean but I have to wonder just how much these characters are going to be broken before we get there. Then again, breaking them might be exactly what needs to occur before that can happen. I’m just not sure how much more my heart can take.

Highlights….

The look on Dean’s face when he said “when I come back, I’m gonna be pissed.” – ooh boy, there’s a ghost I definitely wouldn’t want on my tail.

The use of the title card right after Dean is shot, with its effects acting as Dean’s blood splattering. Wow.

Dean and Young Sam watching the fireworks with Bob Dylan’s “Knocking on Heaven’s Door” playing in the background. This is the same version of the song used in season 2’s ep “Houses of the Holy”. Took a bit of looking but I finally found that version, which is from the ‘Pat Garrett & Billy The Kid’ soundtrack.

Cas talking to Dean through the Impala’s radio and Dean telling him to get out of his dreams because he needed some “me time”.

The way the night sky looked and the bright lighting they used to show us that everything we were seeing, though it all looked fairly normal, was actually in Heaven.

Cas telling Dean “don’t go into the light” and the way he looked on the tv screen – very creepy/cool.

Dean’s toy car being a model of the great Richard Petty’s car – number 43. Awesome! My dad took me to so many of that guy’s races when I was little, I even got his autograph once.

Sam finding out that Dean “wuvs hugz” – awwww!

Poor Sam realizing that he couldn’t talk to his mother as it wasn’t his memory.

Watching grownup Dean get up and reassure his mother and picturing 4 yr old Dean having to do that in the first place. *wipes away tears*

Dean and Sam’s shared horror when they realized that one of Sam’s happiest memories, a time when he ran away, was one of Dean’s worst (as he had to deal with the wrath of their father when he returned to find that Sam had run away on Dean’s “watch”).

Watching Dean’s world continue to crumble as they stumbled across another happy memory of Sam’s, the night he ran away to Stanford, and knowing how much his brother longed to be away from him when all he wanted was for them to be together. *gets out more tissues*

Zachariah making fun of the boys for trying to run away from him. Gotta admit, that was a pretty funny concept.

The return of Ash: “Buenos dias, bitches.” LOL! – You see, THIS is why I love not being spoiled. I had no clue that Chad was going to be back on the show so him showing up out of the blow was freaking awesome!

Ash’s idea of Heaven being hanging out at the Roadhouse and chugging beer. Nice.

Ash mentioning that only a few special people can “share” Heaven, like soulmates. All three paused for a moment and I realized that Sam and Dean appeared to be “sharing”. Usually one equates lovers as soulmates, but I would assume brothers can define the term as well. Very interesting.

Ash telling Sam and Dean “You boys die more than anyone I’ve ever met.” – LOL! Very true. Also very interesting to find out that they’ve been there each time they’ve died before, even though they don’t remember.

The return of Pamela. Once again, nice surprise. Love that she smacked Dean on the head for getting her killed.

Ash saying that he was cool with getting killed because of Sam and Dean. LOL!

Pamela trying to convince Dean to accept Michael’s offer because Heaven isn’t so bad. Makes me wonder if she isn’t working for someone.

The absolutely horrible things that Mama Winchester said to Dean. Yeah I know she was under Zachariah’s control, but still. Poor Dean.

Giggling at Zachariah referring to Mary as a “MILF”.

Laughing out loud when Zachariah mentioned that he was once “employee of the month” in Heaven. Especially considering that Kurt mentioned at the convention that he plays Zachariah like a seedy real estate agent trying to get to the top.

Finding out that God knows about everything that is going on, but doesn’t think it’s His problem. He already stepped in by putting Sam and Dean on the plane and saving Castiel. Wow, I didn’t see that coming. I figured they’d never find Him, not that He’d just refuse to help. Once again, I think this is bringing us closer to the boys saying “yes” to their respective angels.

God sending Sam and Dean back from Heaven…this time with a memory of it.

Sam and Dean waking up covered in their own blood and their clothes riddled with bullet holes.

The sad way Cas said “maybe….maybe Joshua was lying.” And then giving Dean back his amulet because it was now “worthless”. So hard to watch him lose all hope like that.

Dean throwing out the amulet. To me that meant that he didn’t want to carry a symbol of his brother any longer. Not after that brother had apparently wanted nothing more than to get rid of him. I think Dean is wondering now about their entire lives, whether anything he believed in (his brother, his father), was ever true.

*gets out more tissues, blows nose and curses Kripke for breaking her heart once again*

Overall a beautiful episode that I think is bringing us ever closer to the inevitable end of the Apocalypse.

Positively Positive Review – Supernatural: The Song Remains The Same

by on Feb.05, 2010, under Drama, Horror, Television

Young John and Mary Winchest in Supernatural - The Song Remains The Same

For the past couple of episodes, Supernatural has given us a lot of humor mixed with just a little bit of the myth arc. Just when I was beginning to wonder what had happened to the apocalypse, Michael, Lucifer and well, everything, they gave us this fantastic episode.

Anna is out to kill Sam and Dean’s parents so that the two of them are never born and the apocalypse never happens. Cas brings them all back and by doing so, allows both brothers to have conversations with their parents I never thought we’d see, both of which brought me to tears. Dean also got to have a conversation with Michael.

Highlights….

The moment I heard “Cherry Pie” by Warrant, I knew Dean was in a strip club. Sure it was in his dream, but still.

How Cas always makes an entrance. Remind me to keep lots of extra light bulbs on hand in case he ever wants to come visit me….not that I’d mind of course.

Cas saying “You come near Sam Winchester and I’ll kill you.” – So amazing to see how much Cas has changed – calling the boys his friends, protecting them to the death.

Sam asking Cas if the plan to kill him would actually work. He’s so willing to sacrifice himself, if it means an end to it all.

Cas’ stock answer whenever he doesn’t understand what Dean says – “I don’t understand that reference”. It cracks me up because the way he says it, you can tell he’s said it a LOT.

Dean warning Sam to bend his knees before Cas sends them back. Poor guy, he’s been tossed around by Cas a lot.

Dean knowing they had made it to 1978 when he spotted a Pinto. I think my dad used to drive one of those. LOL.

Cas saying that he was doing much better than he expected after taking them all back….and then promptly coughing up blood and passing out. Eek.

Dean saying that Cas is “tough for a little nerdy dude with wings.” – Awwww!

Sam’s reaction to meeting the younger version of his parents and how he couldn’t stop staring at Mary. OMG my heart was just breaking for him.

Dean describing angels as “twice as strong as demons, and bigger dicks.”

The Anna vs Mary totally awesome chick fight.

Sam using the sigil to send away Anna. I had just been asking myself “where the heck is Sam??” – nicely done!

John threatening to turn the car around with Mary in the front seat and Dean and Sam in the back, almost like real family road trip…OMG! So hilarious.

Watching young John going from friendly family man to the guy who does whatever it takes to protect his family, even drawing a symbol he doesn’t understand in his own blood. So odd to see Dean showing young John how to do the things that older John taught him. My poor head was spinning.

The whole conversation between young John and Sam. Young John being angry at how any man could raise his children like that and then Sam defending a man he used to hate, explaining how it was possible for a man to do what his father did and saying that he’d never got the chance to tell his dad that he loved him…..all of it said to the man he was talking about. Okay yeah, major tears were flowing for me by then.

Anna calling 1978 Uriel to help kill the Winchesters. I didn’t expect that.

Dean telling Mary that he was her son. I broke into tears the moment he said it. I had no idea he was going to do that and it shocked the crap out of me.

Everything that Dean said to convince Mary that he was her son – the soup, singing ‘Hey Jude’. So not fair that this show made me cry twice in less than ten minutes.

Sam coming in and telling Mary that she has to leave John so that neither of them will ever be born…..and then finding out that Mary is already pregnant with Dean. Gah!

Watching Sam die….again.

Michael showing up inside young John and killing Anna (at least I’m assuming she’s dead, that didn’t seem like something she could come back from).

I’m with Michael – the conversation between he and Dean was way overdue and I loved it.

Ha! I KNEW it! The vessel thing is a bloodline. I knew that John was connected too.

Seeing the parallels again between Michael & Lucifer and Sam & Dean .

Michael pointing out that all the seemingly random things; have all happened because of fate and there is nothing they can do to change it.

Michael telling Dean that he won’t leave him a drooling mess when he leaves his body. Hmm…interesting that he said that. Once again, makes me nearly certain that Michael will end up in Dean someday and I cannot wait. I’m so looking forward to seeing what Jensen does with that character.

The way Cas just popped into the motel room, very surprised he made it….and promptly passing out again. I love that Cas was basically unconscious through the entire episode.

Dean’s description of “Team Free Will” – LOL!

John and Mary standing in the nursery with Baby!Dean safely inside his mommy’s tummy, and them looking at the little angel figurine. Is it wrong that it made me wonder if they bought a little devil figurine before Sam was born?

Overall another tear jerker of an episode, bringing us closer to the inevitable battle that we all know is coming.
