TV Episode Recap/Review – NCIS “Cracked”

by on Oct.27, 2010, under Crime, Drama, Television

NCIS “Cracked” Season 8 Episode 6 – In this episode, Abby becomes fascinated by the body of a young lieutenant who ran in front of a bus and was killed instantly. The woman’s body is covered in a secret code that only she can understand and Abby soon loses herself while trying to crack it. When Ducky discovers that the poor girl was being slowly poisoned, the whole team goes on the lookout for who was involved in her death.

Pauley absolutely shined in this episode and I loved how she played Abby slowly losing her own identity as she started to take on the one of the woman who died. Makes me wish we’d get more Abby-centric episodes on the show.

My favorite bits…..

Tony having a very naughty phone conversation with his girlfriend…..Ethel?

Tony calling McGee “McTween” – LOL!

This bit:
Tony: “I think Ethel and I really have something.”
McGee: “Well they have antibiotics for that.”

Ziva being confused about what kind of role playing Tony was talking about.

Tony reassuring Gibbs that he would be able to pull off wearing a leotard.

Palmer once again finding the exact inappropriate thing to say in front of a dead body.

Ducky being able to figure out exactly how fast the bus was going just by looking at the body. Nice.

Abby’s “Holy Mother of Einstein!”. Oh I am so gonna be using that one now.

NCIS Season 8 Episode 3 – Short Fuse

My favorite bits…

A woman going down to inspect a suspicious noise for once. Of course, this woman also happened to be a Marine.

Wondering how many takes it took for them to get those bad shots of Tony. I can’t imagine it’d be easy to do.

The photographer trying to tell Gibbs that Tony couldn’t leave. Ha!

McGee pulling up Tony’s mug shot from when they were arrested for trespassing and offering it up as the cover shot.

Tony ignoring McGee’s warning and bringing a photographer to a crime scene.

Gibbs walking in just as Palmer started scratching Ducky’s nose. You know, I always wondered what would happen if someone’s nose started to itch in the middle of an autopsy. I guess now I have my answer.

Jumping when the bomb went off.

Gibbs calling McGee “Tim”. I just love it when he does that every once in a while.

Cracking up when I saw Gibbs ironing and watching a western. Then laughing even harder when Fornell came in with dinner and the two of them acted like the perfect married couple. I especially enjoyed the “we both agreed we hate that place” line. Good to see that the two of them have stayed friends all these years.

Gibbs throwing out the takeout and going for a box of cereal instead.. and Fornell doing the same.

Abby referring to autopsy as the “duck pond”.

Agreeing with Ziva when she said she finds certain older men attractive. *cough*MarkHarmon*cough*

Palmer and Abby’s high five after she figured out who their victim was.

Finding it pretty funny that the wife asked Gibbs and Fornell if they were married, considering they were both married to the same woman at different times.

Tony flat out asking the woman why she was attracted to Tolin.

Loving the fact that Gibbs’ first reaction to seeing the cardboard Tony was to headslap it. I guess he just can’t help himself, it must be such a habit by now.

Abby bouncing in front of the elevator to wait for Gibbs to come out.

McGee reluctantly agreeing that Tony’s movie reference was right.

Gibbs calling Tony “poster boy”. LOL!

Seeing that Heather put a bomb on her brother’s shooter. I totally expected her to be holding a gun on the guy but I guess that makes sense, considering what she does for a living.

Gibbs carefully measuring out his footsteps so he could question the guy safely and get the confession that he’d hired the hitman.

Finding out that the bomb was a fake.

Gibbs coming home to find Fornell in his kitchen cooking Italian, getting his hand smacked for trying to sneak a taste then being told to wash up. OMG, can these two get any cuter?

Ziva trying to make Tony feel better for not getting on the cover by pointing out his shoulder was visible behind Gibbs, and McGee giving him a sympathetic pat on the back. Aw.

NCIS Season 8 Episode 2 – Worst Nightmare

My favorite bits…

Okay wait, did McGee just refer to himself as the “brain trust of the entire unit”? LOL!

Tony saying that he was NOT going to answer the question about why the interns wouldn’t like Gibbs, because he would come up behind him and make him regret it.. which he of course did. And with that, we have the first headslap (albeit with a manila folder but still, I’m counting it) of the season. Woot!

Abby listing off everything that her intern can or cannot do. Hey, after the Chip fiasco, I can’t say I blame her.

McGee torturing his intern and Tony asking if he finally understood how much fun it was. Oh yes, that one look said it all, McGee was totally digging it.

Tony asking Conrad who would catch all the bad guys if they went into the private sector. Awesome point and I loved hearing that coming from Tony. So relieved that he’s not being as much of a nut as he was last season.

Palmer walking in on Ducky and the intern having so much fun. Hmmm.. can we say “jealous”?

Gibbs asking “Why are you angry, man?” to the kidnapper. So droll and yet so funny.

Conrad catching Gibbs getting the ransom money from the evidence locker and getting Gibbs to compare doing his job to running into a burning building.

Gibbs slapping Palmer’s hand when he tried to reach for the stuff in the box. Aw, poor Palmer.

Abby’s intern actually wearing his bells. OMG, I laughed so hard every time he moved.

Gibbs shushing Abby’s intern.

Woot! First “On your six, Boss” of the season, too! Nice.

Totally flipping out at the way the old guy was able to take out McGee and Ziva. Whoa!

Freaking out for about a half a second when Ziva shot Mason… and then I realized that sort of accident would never happen on Team Gibbs. So when Mason got up I wasn’t surprised at all. Nice show they put on for Carmichael though.

Cracking up at this line from Tony:
“You know what you got? Taken down by Leroy Jethro Gibbs.. holla!” – Tony says holla? Awesome.

NCIS Season 8 Episode 1 – The Spider and The Fly

My favorite bits…

Jackson pulling the Winchester on Paloma and telling her he wasn’t like his son. his son was like him. Oh hell yeah!!

LOVING the new credits! Especially the fact that the old Charger is in them. It’s about time we got new credits again. I was so disappointed when they didn’t update them last season like they had every other season.

Tony watching the footage of Franks getting shot and Rivera getting away, knowing he’d been unable to prevent either from happening.

Tony asking if they were going to Arizona when Gibbs asked him to saddle up. It’s a private joke, but I gotta say that made me laugh pretty hard (some of my friends will know why).

Giggling when the horse nudged McGee and Tony called him McMountie.

Palmer interrupting Ducky’s reminiscing with some reminiscing of his own. Oh yes, he’s learning from the best, Palmer is.

Tony getting emails from his father that had me wondering what the “situation” was.

Ziva reassuring Tony that she did not have tan lines.

Tony’s first tv reference of the year… The Wonder Twins! Awesome.

Laughing so hard at the way Frank’s said “I got better”. I guess that means Gibbs must have told him the story about Fornell faking his death a few years ago.

Abby asking her silent bodyguard for his opinion on neck collars.

McGee’s happy smile when Gibbs finally welcomed him home. Aw.

Cringing as soon as Gibb said that things couldn’t get any worse. Oh man. Doesn’t he know that’s a surefire way to make things worse??

Tony and McGee getting back to their normal routine of bickering while working a crime scene together. It must work for them because they always find good clues.

Gibbs telling Franks that it was hard to take him seriously since he kept getting “body parts blown off”. LOL!! Oh Gibbs, you slay me.

Both Gibbs and Vance stepping forward when Rivera made a veiled threat to Abby.

Gibbs walking Abby to her car. So sweet.

Abby and Ducky finding the Day of The Dead dolls on their cars. Figures Paloma would only threaten the team members that don’t carry guns. Oh yeah, real brave. I’d like to see her going after Tony, Ziva or McGee.

Tony giving Vance the pinky eye wink when he walked out the door. Nice!

Screaming “NO WAY!” at my television when I saw that Rivera had shot his sister.

Gibbs taking time off to help his father fix up the store.

Vance hiding away Abby’s report proving that Gibbs had Reynosa.

Vance getting a text from Eli David about..????

Positively Positive Review – NCIS: Rule Fifty-One

by on May.27, 2010, under Crime, Drama, Television

NCIS Rule Fifty One Gibbs

You know, the problem with declaring yourself as the Queen of Positive Reviews is that you have to actually live up to it. Okay so maybe I haven’t actually proclaimed myself that yet, but since I just said it, let’s call it an official proclamation and leave it at that. I’m sure I can find a crown and throne on Ebay, right?

Anyway, moving on. Like I said, the trouble with saying that you’re going to do nothing but positive reviews is that if something doesn’t hit you as totally positive right away, you can’t write about it. Hence the reason that my review for the NCIS seventh season finale is late. It wasn’t that I disliked the episode, not at all, but I was a bit confused at first and had to figure out exactly what I was going to say about it.

Then it hit me that being confused can actually be a positive thing. How’s that, you say? Well it means for one thing that the episode was anything but boring or predictable – two adjectives that are pretty much the worst things I can say about a tv show. If I am sitting there not interested in what’s going to happen next or, worst yet, able to predict every single plot twist, I hate it.

The fact that I couldn’t tell whether the finale (and subsequent season 8 premiere) was about Gibbs getting kidnapped, the report of his murder of Pedro going public at NCIS, Abby and Gibbs’ relationship, Franks going missing (and losing a finger), Tony’s assignment to follow and report on Alejandro or Reynosa showing up at Jackson Gibbs’ store (eek!), well I’m gonna take that as a good thing. That means that I’m not sure where the premiere will start out next year and which storyline it will be about. Heck, maybe it will be all of them and that’s what makes it even more exciting.

My favorite parts…

Watching the stable hand lunging the horse and really wanting to say “pick up your lunge line!” (flashbacks to being a riding coach and assistant trainer, you’re never supposed to let the line hit the ground so that your horse can’t trip over it)

Gibbs shaking the dirt out of his hair, not seemingly bothered by the fact that he’d just been kidnapped. I loved how calm he was through the whole thing, even when she started threatening his friends and family. He never gave her an inch.

Kinda digging the way Gibbs looked all scuffed up in dirty jeans and shirt. He’s usually so well put together, it was kind of a nice change.

Gibbs asking Reynosa if she was doing him favors when she threatened his mother-in-law. LOL.

Tony’s grimace when he found out they were riding to Mexico in a C130 instead of the GV he had been hoping for.

The whole “wink” conversation between Tony and Ziva outside MTAC.

Finding out that Alejandro was not only working with Reynosa…..he’s her brother!

The discussion between Tony, Ziva and Abby about the seriousness of Gibbs bringing up a rule in the 40’s.

Thinking the riddle Gibbs’ father told him was pretty cool.

Gibbs rubbing in the fact that he can still talk to his father to Reynosa and Alejandro and then tempting the man to kill man. Man, that was intense.

Tony and Ziva promising each other that they wouldn’t get on the plane without Gibbs….and opening the door to find Gibbs standing there.

Ziva nudging Tony to get him to stop pushing Gibbs on the plane and him going on anyway. I love that Tony has always been brave enough to go toe to toe with Gibbs.

Ducky’s mind going blank for the first time and Palmer helping him out by “teeing the ball up” for him. I also loved Ducky’s little golfing story and how they moved the camera back when he demonstrated hitting the ball.

Trying to figure out what the heck kind of phone it was that Gibbs was using when he called to warn his father.

Ziva and Tony doing all the “McGee” stuff without him. Guess they do have a few computer skills themselves.

Vance mentioning that Hetty got him on to a studio tour in LA. LOL, I knew she had connections.

Being completed flabbergasted by the scary conversation between Vance and Gibbs. Even knowing now that Gibbs was doing his best to tell Vance what was going on without actually saying the word, it’s still intense seeing them go at each other like that.

Abby knowing exactly why Gibbs put a guard at her door, and telling him that it terrifies her when he violates his own rules. Aw, poor Abby.

Gibbs only able to give Abby a hug and a kiss in response to her asking who was after her. It was so hard to watch him struggling to keep everyone he loved safe without being able to tell anyone about what was happening.

Vance putting Tony in charge of the mission to get Dean and knowing that it was because he was giving Gibbs free reign to do what he needed to, even if he didn’t know what it was.

After the shootout at the airport, the way Tony flexed his fingers and gripped his gun again. I’ve noticed him doing that a couple times over the course of the series. It’s an interesting little habit and it’s got me wondering if there’s a reason he does it.

Finding out that Vance had bugged Gibbs phone. Clever boys!

The conversation between Gibbs and Vance in the park. Vance basically telling Gibbs that he knows about Pedro’s death, doesn’t care, and is going to help him out with Alejandro. Very cool.

McGee pausing in the doorway to look back in puzzlement when Vance said he needed to see Tony instead of him. Had me curious too.

I know I said I liked Gibbs scruffy in the beginning of the ep but I took it back after I saw him in the suit in the end.

Ziva looking down as she took her oath and noticing the two empty seats that should have been filled by Tony and Gibbs.

See Tony obviously undercover and following Alejandro in Mexico and knowing that was what Vance had needed him for.

Hart visiting Gibbs to tell him that she helped Bell partly because she wanted to know more about him, and that she is also going to help him with his case now that the report is out about Pedro’s murder.

Franks calling Tony “Probie”. So cool!

Finding out that rule #44 is “first things first, hide the women and children” (after hearing Gibbs give that message to Franks in the previous ep and not knowing what it meant).

Gibbs remembering when he decided to become a cop and why he did it in the first place. Then pulling out a piece of paper to write out a new rule – #51 “Sometimes – You’re Wrong”. Which I took to mean that he was realizing what he did to Pedro was wrong. As a cop now he knows that murdering someone isn’t right, even if you think they deserve it.

Reynosa showing up at Jackson’s store and wondering where that would lead us next season.

Overall a jam-packed season finale that has set up the show to go in a lot of directions next year.
