Positively Positive Review – Ghostfacers: Webisodes 9 and 10

by on May.23, 2010, under Action, Comedy-drama, Horror, Webisodes

Ghostfacers webisodes CW

Episode 9 – I like how they did the “Then” and “Now” clips, which were very reminiscent of Supernatural. Pretty cool how this little web series gives us little clues to its origins. The hug between Harry and Maggie was very sweet. Poor Ed’s return from the hospital with Ambyr, covered in her blood, I wasn’t surprised that he wanted to pack it all in, who could blame him? This episode was pretty much completely serious, very different than the mood of the rest.

Episode 10 – Whoa, six weeks later and the Ghostfacers are disbanded? Everyone has moved on? Spruce is “LARP-ing” (aka Live Action Role Playing)?? Ed is making pizzas? Oh noes! But then Harry finds out that the theater is re-opening and gets Ed to realize that while one person may have been hurt, they also saved hundreds (if not thousands, LOL) of lives. And with that, they’re back! Woot!

Oh and they’re also looking for a new intern. Maybe they’ll end up losing one in each story, kinda like Kenny on South Park.

Overall the last two eps took us from fear and sadness all the way back to the fun and humor of the earlier eps. It was a fun roller coaster ride for me and I’m looking for the next season of this series.

Positively Positive Review – Ghostfacers, webisodes 7 & 8

Episode 7 starts out with Spruce performing a ritual from his ancestors, all of them apparently. The mix of Cherokee and Hebrew is supposed to clear out the ghost from the film they found, sure that’s what is trapping the spirit in the theater. Afterwards the team starts to relax and a little bit of romance comes out as Ambyr and Ed do a little flirting via camera and Harry and Maggie start a play fight that leads to something more…..until they’re caught by Spruce. LOL.

Whoa! Episode 8 left my poor heart pounding. Up until now Ambyr has been nothing except the dumb blonde with the big boobs. But suddenly the ghost appears and this little web series starts looking more like its older cousin, Supernatural. Blood is shed as the ghost starts cutting not only at the hapless Ghostfacer’s face but also taking a vicious swipe at her neck. The Facers finally figure out that it’s the mirrors that are giving the ghost her power and set about destroying them all, the only question is whether or not the team is about to lose another member….

Overall the best two eps by far, full of action and drama with just a touch of romance thrown in for good measure. I can’t wait to see what happens next week.

Positively Positive Review – Ghostfacers, webisodes 5 & 6

Okay so I just discovered a great way to scare the bejeezus outta myself while watching these eps. Turn out all the lights and watch them alone on your laptop late at night. I was doing that while I watched the 5th installment and just about jumped out of my skin when the ghost appeared at the end and attacked Ed. I totally thought she was going to go after Ambyr or any of the others who were out with the mirrors, not Ed, since he was just at their control center. So yeah, big startle for me.

The 6th episode was a touch more on the serious side. After getting attacked, Ed is leery of taking on the ghost, despite the team’s excitement over their ‘first fully formed spectral humanoid’ seen since the Morton House. But Ed remembers what else happened in that house, the death of one of their first teammates, Corbette.

Overall this series just keeps getting better and better with these two eps going from super scary to fairly serious, while still keeping it pretty light and fun, no easy task.

Positively Positive Review – Ghostfacers: Webisodes 3 and 4

The Ghostfacers are back again and this time, they actually see a ghost! Woot! I’m really getting a kick out of how well they are mixing the humor with the documentary stuff as well as the creepiness. A few moments of the current eps were downright scary, which I didn’t expect and was pleasantly pleased to see.

A short review but then again these webisodes are less than four minutes each so….

Funniest part of episode 3….

“My face has gotta be right in your box.” – Ed explaining to Ambyr how to know if her camera was working correctly. LOL!

Funniest part of episode 4….

“Bloody Mary, that story’s crap.” – Cracked me up so hard since the Supernatural episode by the same name is one of my favorites.

Overall two more great episodes that ended with a nice little cliffhanger. Can’t wait to see how they’re going to get the ghost and exactly what they’re gonna do with the mirrors.

Positively Positive Review – Ghostfacers: Webisodes 1 and 2

Ghostfacers

Yes! The Ghostfacers webisodes are finally here! Woot!

The first time I heard whispers of there being webisodes from the Ghostfacers was at a convention back in 2008. So when the Ghostfacers themselves, Travis Wester and AJ Buckley, announced at last month’s Salute to Supernatural convention in LA that the webisodes were going live on April 15, I was very excited. First seen in Supernatural season 1, episode 17 “Hell House” the Ghostfacers are a group of ghost hunters that cause Sam and Dean a lot of trouble. They cause even more trouble in one of my all time fave eps of Supernatural “Ghostfacers”.

It was that episode that made me fall in love with these guys. Done with almost no script and shot with handheld cameras, it was gritty and realistic and yet hysterically funny. The new episodes follow a similar format it appears, with much the same results.

The first two episodes introduce us to the team again, as well as to the new intern Ambyr who replaces Corbette (tragically killed in the line of duty). It also gives the team a lead on hunt, which is where the real fun will be I’m sure.

Overall the first two eps of this web series look to have all the elements that I enjoyed from the Ghostfacers appearances on Supernatural. I can’t wait to see what the next eight episodes (showing over the next four weeks) will bring.
