Positively Positive Review – NCIS: Patriot Down

NCIS Patriot Down Gibbs

One of the things I’ve always liked about this show is how well they can play out really long story arcs. The first time we found out about Gibbs murdering the man who killed his family was all the way back in season four. Here we are in season seven and finally all of it is coming to a head. Gibbs’ secret was bound to come out some time and now someone is out for revenge.

Highlights…

Getting another chance to see Gibbs ride. I especially had to giggle since the fanfic I’m currently writing features the whole team on horseback.

Giggling again at Tony saying “Ah graduation, for many an alcohol induced purple haze”. After attending my friend’s law school commencement and subsequent party (at a pub, no less) this past weekend, I can attest to that one. LOL.

McGee doesn’t like s’mores?? Sacrilege!

Tony telling McGee to “zip up, you’re inner geek is showing”…and McGee looks at his fly. LOL.

Finding out that body on the beach was Macy, who played the lead agent for the NCIS LA team in the crossover eps last year. Whoa, total shock.

When they gave the news to about Macy’s death to her teammate, I couldn’t help but to wonder what it would have been like for Gibbs to receive that news about one of his team. It’s not easy news to deliver, no receive.

The underlying tension between Abby and Gibbs. It was so hard to see Abby as anything other than her usual effervescent self.

Not able to get over being annoyed by the fact that Hart insists on calling Gibbs “Mister Gibbs”, rather than “Agent Gibbs”.

Tony’s description of flan actually making me crave some.

The way they shot the scene in the interrogation room with Tony, Ziva and PO Borrows. I like how Tony was in the corner of the room and asked his first questions through the reflections in the glass. I think having Ziva sitting closer and Tony farther away was to make Burrows feel more comfortable when talking about something as awful as rape.

Abby trying to cover up the fact that she was hiding something in her conference call between Vance and Alejandro. Lying is so not her thing and it was hard for me to watch her try and do it.

Gibbs obviously starting to wonder about the reason for Mayc’s murder when he saw that her personal notes, including the ones dating back to her time as an MP and when she investigated him for the murder of Pedro, were possibly missing. Oh boy.

Gibbs making Tony chew and swallow on command. Boy, he’s got his team well trained, doesn’t he?

Knowing, like Gibbs did, that the reason those sailors beat that guy was because he raped the Petty Officer.

Loving the way Ziva described what she would do to a rapist.

Seeing a slightly more serious Tony when he ordered all the sailors out of their sleeping quarters, the way he and Ziva question them and especially loving the way Ziva told them to shut up. Awesome.

The tender and sweet way that Gibbs talked to the Petty Officer. I love how he can go from hardass to nice guy at the flip of a switch and knowing who needs which treatment.

Oh man, the moment that girl said that Tyler wasn’t alone I knew that his scumbag dad was in on it too.

Gibbs attempt at Spanish and really wanting to know what Rule 44 is.

Gibbs losing it and slamming the scumbag dad up against the glass, then realizing that Macy’s death had nothing to do with the rape.

Ducky figuring out what Gibbs did in Mexico and both of them connecting that murder to Macy’s and then Gibbs finally putting all the pieces together and coming up with one answer – Colonel Bell.

Gibbs cornering Hart and getting her tell him where Bell is now that he knows for sure that someone is after the people he cares about.

Abby instituting a lockdown on Gibbs and demanding to speak to him. Yes! Go Abs!

Abby saying that she is willing to do anything for Gibbs, including covering up everything about the murder. Wow. I never, ever thought Abby would say that. It just shows how much she cares for Gibbs, that’s she’s willing to do that for him.

Gibbs telling Abby that she has to send in the report, all of it, and Abby knowing that’s what he would say. Then the little kiss on her forehead – so sweet.

Vance asking Hart to stop being a lawyer and start being a friend and to tell him what Bell was up to. Awesome.

My heart going into my throat when I saw the burned house and the bodies on the beach. If something happens to Franks, his daughter in law and granddaughter (who is also Gibbs’ god-daughter), I don’t know what would happen to Gibbs. I don’t think he can take much more loss in his life and I was sickened when I thought they might be dead.

Being shocked to find out that the body was Colonel Bell and wondering who Dean was really working for. What an ending!!

Overall a good first part to the two-part season finale, leaving us with some answers but also a lot more questions, just as it should.
