Positively Positive Review – Castle: Suicide Squeeze
by Mokibobolink on Feb.09, 2010, under Comedy-drama, Mystery, Television
The overall theme of this episode was all about fathers. A murdered man ends up not hiding a mistress, but a long lost daughter. We also find out that Castle is famously fatherless, his mother conceiving him with a man she only knew for a few hours but with whom she “loved a lifetime”. At first I found myself feeling sorry for Castle, even when he pointed out to his daughter that not knowing meant that he could imagine the man as anything. He believes that no man can live up to his expectations and therefore he’s bound to be disappointed if he ever finds him.
Which is why I found the final scene so great – once again his child actors more like his parent as Alexis asks her father to join her in a game of catch, pointing at though his unknown father could be anything, the one thing the mystery man couldn’t be was a dad. A dad who did regular things like play catch with his son.
It was such a sweet ending, made even better when Castle throws the ball and breaks a vase – something I totally saw coming but still laughed at.
Overall a great episode that gave us a little more info about Castle and the father he never knew.
